Well I got the call. Finally the date is confirmed. I will be getting the hysterectomy on September 16th 2025. Both exciting and scary stuff. But I am relieved a bit because now I feel as if I can really prepare and buy my medicines and prep my bag and give more thought into what to bring into the hospital with me. I’ve bought a new charger for my phone and iPad and I have gotten cheap slippers to keep my feet warm in the hospital.
I am eager to prep everything now for the big day, especially now that I have confirmed the dates with the surgeon and now that I know when I will be away from work. I have established it will be September 15th until November 17th. I was able to put it into my work calendar already and everything. I hope to buy all my recovery stuff with this recent pay cycle. It’s my first time having a job with a salary and it’s also my first time ever taking this long off work so I’m pretty nervous about that aspect as well.
I have been watching videos and reading blogs and forums again lately. I’ll link some good videos below. The starred video is the most real. I like that it made me realize a lot of these videos and the advice I am getting is that it’ll be okay and that people walk away from this. But I believe that I will be having an open hysterectomy. I am looking at a worse heal then the more common laparoscopic procedures with the smaller incisions. I am hoping it’ll be less gas pain but it doesn’t seem that’ll be the case so far. Only my own experience will tell I guess.
Other then the obvious fears of pain and recovery and being sedated I am afraid of bowel issues and if we need a bowel prep they said they’re not sure I need it but I feel like my uterus is affecting my bowels profoundly so I think even if I don’t need to do it I’ll do a miralax or a suppository to help insure I am empty. I have just been very constipated and the uncomfortable constipation has become essentially part of my cycle.
It’s just so crazy to me that they won’t contact me again until the day before my surgery!
