Who are you?
My name is Bailey, I am a 32 year old Canadian woman. In 1999 I was diagnosed with combined ADHD and then later in life I was diagnosed with Autism. I hope to give an AuDHD perspective on getting and recovering from a Hysterectomy or at the very least an unfiltered human recounting and a one woman’s candid experience.
Why are you sharing this?
For some more background into my story and why I am writing about it. Since the start of my late puberty (and a very early pregnancy) I knew something was weird about my reproductive organs but I could never prove it or accurately explain it to professionals and was often dismissed as I hear is common for woman suffering with heavy periods and severe cramps, over the years it got worse and worse. Autistic people with uterus’ are often overlooked or ignored and I want to share my story of self-advocacy, learning and recovery with people searching for personal experience stories.
What is the reason for surgery?
I have Stage 4 Adenomyosis, this is a condition that enlarges the uterus. For me this causes profound issues with my bladder as well as my bowels, for those brave enough my extensive symptoms and experience with this : Pre-op SYMPTOMS
How will it be done?
I will be having a total hysterectomy, my uterus is too large to do so laparoscopically so it will be done by abdominal incision.
I am currently scheduled for my surgery September 16th 2025.
